The New Thinkers have replaced the New Atheists... but do they have the answers?
Get early access to Ep 7 of 'The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God'
We’re living in a ‘meaning crisis’ in the 21st Century West.
That’s the diagnosis of many Christian and secular thinkers today. You can hear from many of them on episode 6 of The Surprising Rebirth of Belief In God podcast, titled ‘The Meaning Crisis’.
But if you’d like early access to the next show - episode 7 - then keep reading!
At one time many people turned to atheist intellectuals like Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens with the big questions of life. But they didn’t seem to have the answers.
As New Atheists have since turned their attention to battling the quasi-religions of 'woke' ideology in academia and culture, so a new generation of secular thinkers have begun a new conversation on God.
This new episode charts the changes wrought by the culture wars and introduces some key thinkers who are asking whether we can live without the Christian story.
They include: Tom Holland, Douglas Murray, Louise Perry, Mary Harrington, Bret Weinstein, Jonathan Haidt and Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
This episode hasn’t yet been released on podcast.
But you can hear my conversations with them NOW on this early access episode when you become a Silver or Gold supporter on Patreon. Or by giving via our tax-deductible partner in the USA.
Book award for The Surprising Rebirth Of Belief in God
I was delighted to see that The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God was listed as a ‘Finalist’ this past week in the Christianity Today 2024 Book Awards.
It stood alongside three other books in the ‘Apologetics/Evangelism’ category, with Christopher Watkins’ excellent ‘Biblical Critical Theory’ deservedly winning the top spot.
You can purchase a copy of ‘The Surprising Rebirth Of Belief in God’ here, or get yourself (or someone you love!) a signed copy.
P.S. You’ll receive signed copies of both my books when you become a Gold or Platinum supporter on Patreon or via tax-deductible giving with our USA partner.
Discussing CS Lewis on BBC Radio 3
I had great fun this week appearing along with three other Lewis-philes on ‘Free Thinking’ on BBC Radio 3, presented by Chris Harding, to discuss the faith, fiction and legacy of CS Lewis.
I had with me a very battered 1964 edition of Surprised By Joy - Lewis’ spiritual memoir of his conversion.
It’s fascinating how many parallels there are between Lewis’ journey of faith almost 100 years ago and modern day thinkers such as Jordan Peterson, Tom Holland and Douglas Murray. Will they arrive in the same place as he did? Time will tell…
