Don't scare Gen Z from church! // Why we need the Christian story

Elizabeth Oldfield shares her insights on the new generation of seekers, and Tom Holland discusses faith with Bishop Robert Barron

Elizabeth Oldfield (former Theos director, and host of The Sacred podcast) explains why the increasing interest in God is not just a "right wing" phenomenon: there are people "on the left" and in younger generations who are also growing Christian-curious. She discussed with me both what draws them towards, and repels them away from, embracing faith and stepping into church (including culture wars and politics), as well as sharing insights for seekers from Iain McGilchrist, Tom Holland, and even people who've tried psychedelics!

Bishop Robert Barron & Tom Holland discuss the importance of the Christian story

Many doubt that Christianity has a place in the modern age, yet Bishop Robert Barron and historian Tom Holland both argue that this assumption is not only wrong, but blissfully ignorant of how Christianity has grounded and shaped what we cherish most in the West. How do we tell the Christian story in a post-Christian age? I hosted this conversation as part of the Word On Fire Conference in 2023.

Listen to the complete Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God season 1!

The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God Season 1 is complete! And what a journey it’s been… 30 episodes, totalling 48 hours of podcast listening!

Did you miss any episodes? Or do you know of friends, family or colleagues who may be interested in listening? You, and they, can now binge the whole thing from start to finish!

What a podcast! This has to be the most thought provoking podcast on the internet. I have so enjoyed listening and learning. What I like is the two sided view of Christianity, which enables you to decide what side you wish to believe.

When I conclude the series I know I'm going to start again because there is so much to take on board.

Just excellent.“

P.S. I’ve been hugely encouraged by the number of people with and without faith getting in touch to say how much the podcast has impacted their journey. We are already in the process of creating Season 2 for 2025. If you can help me to cover our production costs by supporting Think Faith, I would be so grateful!

Interview with John Anderson

I had the privilege of being interviewed by John Anderson, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, to explore cultural shifts in the West, particularly the rise and decline of New Atheism, and how recent years have seen a surprising resurgence of interest in Christianity, even among secular intellectuals.

The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God gets a mention on William Lane Craig’s podcast

World leading Christian philosopher and apologist Dr William Lane Craig weighs in on the rising trend of big skeptics becoming Christians, mentioning a number of cases that we’ve covered in our podcast and in my book!

I’ve received many encouraging messages about the Surprising Rebirth Podcast in the past month, including this one:

“This goes down as the best podcast of the year for me. The range of scholarship given here, delivered accessibly, and the book that goes with it; anyone involved in teaching about Religion and Philosophy should be familiar with it.”
