A stocking full of Christmas treats: NT Wright, Tom Holland, Bishop Barron and more!
Merry Christmas! We’ve been saving up some treats for you to enjoy over the Christmas break. Our 3 latest videos, an interview on Curiously Kaitlyn, articles from Surprising Rebirth friends and myself, and a review from a recent panel discussion I participated in. Enjoy!
NT Wright: We Need to RETHINK ROMANS 8!
Historian, theologian and author NT Wright explains how he changed his mind on the meaning of Romans 8, and how it informed his book Into the Heart of Romans. He also discussed with me why he thinks that many Christians miss the depths and richness of the Bible's message, and what he makes of the new wave of public intellectuals, such as Jordan Peterson and Tom Holland, showing a fresh interest in Christianity.
CANCELLED by Fellow Atheists! - Stephen Woodford (Rationality Rules)
Popular atheist YouTuber Stephen Woodford (also known as Rationality Rules) shares his story about his evolving views on religion, and reflects on when he was cancelled by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Non-Christians Have CHRISTIAN BELIEFS! - Tom Holland
Historian Tom Holland (co-host of The Rest Is History podcast) shares how he came to realise the importance of Christianity in shaping the West (including today's largely secular culture). I interviewed him during The IllumiNations Europe Conference in Gleneagles, 2022.
Interview: How do we know that God is real?
I joined Kaitlyn of The Holy Post podcast to try to answer one of the most important questions we’ve heard: How do we know God is real? I offered some reasons to believe in God, described the difference between knowing and proving that God is real, and gave advice for parents and Sunday school teachers on talking to kids (and grown ups!) about believing in God in our pluralistic and skeptical age.
My latest Spectator article: The surprising truth about the West’s Christian revival
I was invited back to write for the spectator, to expand upon my thesis, with the mounting evidence for a “rebirth of belief in God”!
Low-Tide Evangelism
Glen Scrivener’s article in The Gospel Coaltion on how to evangelise when the tide of faith is low (as per my thesis and its imagery derived from Matthew Arnold’s poem Dover Beach)
Dumbed-Down Catholicism Was a Disaster
America’s most watched bishop, Robert Barron, (whom I’ve had the priviledge of interviewing several times) is scouting out a new future for Christianity, and has strong words to say about the need to preserve its integrity.
Orthodox and evangelical churches grow as ‘fringe’ Christianity declines
The Theos Think Tank examines the phenomenon of where - and which kinds of - churches appear to be experiencing a resurgence of belief and attendance.
Listen to the complete Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God season 1!

“What a podcast! This has to be the most thought provoking podcast on the internet. I have so enjoyed listening and learning. What I like is the two sided view of Christianity, which enables you to decide what side you wish to believe.
When I conclude the series I know I'm going to start again because there is so much to take on board.
Just excellent.“

I’ve received many encouraging messages about the Surprising Rebirth Podcast in the past month, including this one:
“This goes down as the best podcast of the year for me. The range of scholarship given here, delivered accessibly, and the book that goes with it; anyone involved in teaching about Religion and Philosophy should be familiar with it.”
I can only create this podcast with the support of listeners, so if you feel able please do become a supporter!
